Kawa Kon 2015

1 min read
I know I don't really use deviantart much anymore, but even so I'll likely be posting a few shots from Kawa Kon on here.
Kawa is in less than a month so I wanted to write up my line up so people can find me easier.

Friday: Sousuke from Free! Eternal Summer

Saturday: Link from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

Sunday: Green from Pokemon

Hope to see plenty of you there!

I've had a traumatic couple of days. 2 coworkers and friends of mine have recently died. Unless you know me personally I don't really want to talk about how, but I did see one of them dead. I haven't been doing ok lately since then...but I'm much more concerned about my other friend who was with me. She is the sister to one and friend to the other. Kyle and Stephanie were dating...they died together. They were in their 20s.

I just wanted to write a brief journal to say I hope they've found peace and I will miss them. I just recently started hanging out with them outside of work and it was cut far too short. It will be so weird going in to work everyday and not seeing them...tonight will be my 1st night going back to work since the incident. I'm not looking forward to it.

Rose, Kyle's sister, might not be back for all I know. I talked to her on the phone for awhile and she's not doing too well. Struggling to leave the house...I'll see her at the services this Saturday. I hope she gets through this ok and I hope I can be of some help...

Anyway, life has been bleh. I don't know when I'll be posting here again.

So I know I haven't updated with pictures at all since July...but the good news is Link and Zelda costumes that me and candybkins are working on are going very smoothly! Infact, Zelda is almost done then it's on to Link, which will be pretty fast to make honestly sans props. Not sure why we started with the hardest costume first, but it's well worth it. I'll post a preview of it here after she gets her wig n junk just to show off my sewing/crafting work.
I'm hoping to have some new pictures by Halloween and have the costumes done by then, so we'll see how that goes. Trying some new things for my props, so those might take awhile longer than Halloween, but Kawa Kon for sure we'll have them all done and ready to go!

We were also highly considering entering a masquerade for them...Now I wanted opinions on this...should we go in as a beginner or Novice? I've made a few costumes before, but never entered a masquerade and I've heard before if you've never entered you're supposed to be in beginner...but I don't know if that's true. Thoughts?

Anyway, that's all I got to say for now....Oh! And today's my Birthday. I'm getting old. It's icky. Hope by this time next year I'm in a different house with a different job x___x

Hey guys! It's been quite a long time, eh?
So I went to Ren faire. I only posted one picture of my costume, but I really didn't get a lot that I liked. I thought going to ren faire would motivate me and make me want to cosplay more, since it was a new costume....but it didn't change anything. I've not felt the love for cosplay or effort to dress up/make anything new in almost 6 months now. It's really really upsetting me to think about since cospaly used to be a huge source of joy to me....basically, I'm in a cosplay slump. Although I DID enjoy Ren faire and I loved seeing my friends, I dreaded for weeks having to put that costume on and I didn't have fun being dressed up....We got stopped every 5 feet for pictures and fun conversation about our costumes. Ren faire folk seem to be so much more friendly than just the regular con folk. I really love how they shamelessly approach me and just start talking to me. Met some fantastic people...but even so, I didn't enjoy being dressed up....even KNOWING I looked awesome. I don't get it.

Me and candybkins have been talking about dressing up again and what cosplay to make next, and for months I've just changed the subject or got annoyed....now finally, I feel like the love I had for this hobby is slowly returning, at least a little bit. We decided on the next costumes we want to make together. We're making Toon Link and Toon Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. I plan to start buying materials my very next paycheck and I'll regularly be posting updates on the costume's progress on my facebook (www.facebook.com/MasonManiacCo…). Since Link will be a lot easier than Zelda and I have more experience than Candy, we've decided to switch. I'll be making her costume and she'll be making most of mine. I'm actually...finally excited about a costume. Wind Waker was my favorite Zelda game and I love how much personality Link has in the game. It may be the most simplistic version of him, but it's by far my favorite.
To make the costumes more fun/interesting, we'll be working together to make a bunch of props for Link.
Here's a small list of some props we have in mind:
-Hero shield (definitely will have)
-Hero sword (definitely will have)
-Spoils bag (definitely will have)
-boomerang
-compass
-chuu jelly bottles
-Wind Waker baton (definitely will have)
-piece of heart

We likely won't make it all any time soon, but we're going to try to make a lot of it! I think these props are the main reason I'm so psyched about this costume!

Anyways, that's our next project. Our next convention will be Kawa Kon in March, then after that we're REALLY hoping to go to ACen next year. We have plenty of time to get some new costumes done, but we're planning on starting as soon as possible!
We'll also be rewearing/reworking Sora and Riku (KH2) and Reno and Rufus (FFVII). Both sets need some improvements/additions. We'll be doing a few other completely new costumes as well, but I'm going to keep them secret for now. We'll wait to reveal them until we're closer to con time. Zelda will be our biggest costume projects though!
I might post pictures of some props as I make them, but otherwise all you guys are gonna get are any old pictures I can dig up for now. My hiatus is almost over, but until I have some material to post, I guess it's still technically on-going.

So who all plans to go to Kawa Kon next year or ACen?
